Where are your teas from?
All of our teas are imported from various regions in Japan, and distributed from New York.
Are your teas organic?
All of our organic teas are certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan. Organic cultivation is to grow agricultural crops in the historic way before modern agriculture, without any chemical fertilizer or pesticides, using only natural organic fertilizer. Organic tea has a simple and traditional flavor.
Do you use pesticides?
In Japan, conventionally-grown teas are strictly controlled in the use of pesticides by the Concentration Standard of Residual Agricultural Chemicals in Japan. The Concentration Standard of Residual Agricultural Chemicals, established in 2006 in Japan, allows only 0.01ppm of residual concentration. The criterion measure level is more stringent than anywhere else in the world. You can be assured that our conventionally-grown teas are met with the highest standards.
How long is the tea good for?
We guarantee fresh quality for one year since breaking the seal. You can still drink it after the best by date but the flavor and scent may fade over time.
What is the best way to store the tea?
Keep in a dry, dark, and cool location for best results. Seal the tea pouch firmly and avoid moisture, excessive heat, light, and air. We highly recommend storing your tea in an airtight chazutsu tea canister.
Are your tea bags safe?
All of our tea bags are carefully packed with organic loose leaf tea in pyramid-shaped corn fiber mesh tea bags for quick and easy brewing. PLA Corn Fiber is a new environmentally friendly material that is safer than nylon mesh.
Can the teas be made cold?
Iced tea can be brewed two ways. If you want to brew tea instantly, brew it like any normal cup of hot tea and add ice. Another way is to cold brew the tea. Fill a pitcher with water and throw in the tea bag and chill in the fridge overnight. We recommend starting with one tea bag for every 8oz of water (1 cup). Of course, adjust the ratio of tea and water to your taste preferences.
How much caffeine is there in a cup of tea?
This all depends on the water temperature and brewing time but on average, our green teas have 35mg per 8oz cup (about a third of coffee). On the other hand, our roasted green tea (hojicha) has 15mg, whereas herbal teas, such as barley tea (mugicha) is caffeine free.
Are your teas gluten-free?
All of our green teas are gluten-free. Most of our herbal teas are also gluten-free, except for Mugicha Barley Tea.
