Description

From the hills of Shizuoka, this organic Hojicha roasted green tea is incredibly fragrant with a soothing, earthy aroma and a light-bodied, toasty flavor. Hojicha also spelled Houjicha, is a popular green tea that’s excellent for digestion. In Japan, hojicha is especially favored by children and the elderly for its low caffeine content – a tea suitable for any time and anyone. Hojicha gets its low caffeine content and reddish-brown color from the high heat roasting process.

Hojicha Brewing Instructions

  1. Heat fresh, filtered water until boiled. Let cool very slightly — water close to 203°F (95°C) is ideal for bringing out the fragrance and flavor in Hojicha.
  2. Pour water over 1 tablespoon of tea leaves per cup.
  3. Steep for 1-2 minutes. All of our teas can be steeped up to 3 times.

Cold Hojicha Brewing Instructions

Simply add the desired amount of Hojicha tea leaves into a container or bottle and pour boiling water until the top. Let the tea steep and cool down before putting it in the fridge to chill. After 2-3 hours, the cold brew Hojicha is ready. Cold-brew tea lasts in the fridge for 2-3 days.

Hojicha is one of my favorite teas to drink. Senbird is definitely top quality tea. From the moment I held the tin in my hands, it feels like a very luxurious experience. Not only is it functional, as the tight seal locks and protects your loose tea, but it looks nice in the cupboard or presented for a tea ceremony. The flavor of the hojicha is like a roasted sweeter green tea. I either drink it plain or, for a more elevated experience, with milk like I normally do with black tea. The thickness and warmth of the tea (plain) is about medium (midway between water and hot chocolate), but increases with milk added to it. This tea is great for sipping with friends presented as a tea ceremony using a traditional tea set, or in a mug by the fireplace.

First, I must clarify that I don’t brew hot. I enjoy iced tea. Therefore, I cold brew my teas in the refrigerator. This is LOVELY! The grassy astringency associated with green tea is very mild. Of course, no doubt my brew method contributes to the mild character that I’m reporting here. But still, this is lovely.

It has a buttery flavor profile with beautiful grassy undertones and a nicely balanced roasted lingering finish that makes this tea an awesome experience. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Oh, and I’ve gotten at least four steeps out of a 10 gram dose. I steep 10 grams into 64 ounces (nearly 2 L) of distilled cold water using the County Line Kitchen – Cold Brew Mason Jar sold here in Amazon.

    Absolutely fabulous!

This is one of my new go-to brands for green tea. You can smell and taste the difference in quality from other green teas, especially when compared to tea bags. I typically use tea bags, but loose leaf tea is actually really easy to prep and there are brewing instructions included! I was impressed with the packaging, and appreciate that I can reuse the tin and buy refills. Would buy again, especially for a gift.

I just started drinking Hojicha tea. The roasted flavor is inviting and I totally fell in love with this green tea.
It’s really easy to prepare and it minimizes debris in the cup. It’s price is well calculated.

Simply amazing! The favor is so rich which I love the most about this tea. Additionally, I like how they put all instructions and information on their package which is a solid tin! I always wonder how much caffeine contained in my tea. It’s nice to know that Hojicha has such a low caffeine since I usually drink a tea after dinner. Just perfect for me! Highly recommend to people looking for a high quality Japanese teas. This tea is top notch!

For someone who isn’t an avid green tea drinker (because of low caffeine tolerance), this is the perfect tea for me. The flavor is there and it doesn’t overdo it on the caffeine. Love it!

I tried Senbird’s powdered hojicha prior so my ranking is off. The powdered version was by blendy stick and the flavor was bold, this brew yourself version was light and required some tweaking to get that “bold” taste I preferred.

Though I have just started drinking Hojicha, I found the flavor of Senbird’s Hojicha subtle but entirely pleasant. The roasted flavor blankets the palette warmly while hints of sweetness invite the flavor to linger a moment after you swallow. The loose leaf tea pieces are larger than what I’ve experienced in Hojicha tea bags which minimized debris in my teapot and cup.

The tin, a proper Japanese aluminum tin, and the rich earthy scent and flavor. Very robust

This is the first tea we have tried from senbird. I have to say it’s really good. As a matter of fact we have also ordered the soybean, and the buckwheat one. Everything we have tried is excellent. I placed another order on December 14 as a Christmas gift thinking I wouldn’t get on time. It came in plenty of time!! Thank you so much!!! Your company rocks!!!! I will definitely keep ordering from Senbird for all my tea needs!!

I love the subtle flavor of this tea. It is a great choice if just getting into tea. This has a great savory flavor. This is a great everyday tea that can be drunk anytime. I will definitely be buying this again.

Good night time tea. It is in fact low caffeine because I have been drinking at night after meal and it doesn’t affect my sleep cycle like other tea does. Very mild and tasty. Smooth. Very pleasant tea to drink. As suggested, I drink after dinner before bed and it does not keep me up. A must for night time tea lovers.
