Description

This Sencha green tea uses fresh tea leaves at prime ripeness, the first pick of the season. The soft buds come from Japan’s Yabukita cultivar. This Fukamushi Sencha is savory and full-bodied with a natural sweetness that is truly exceptional.

Fukamushi Sencha, also known as Shizuoka’s signature style of green tea, is deep steamed for a longer duration than usual. The result is a rich, vibrant green brew.

Sencha Steeping Instructions

  1. Heat fresh, filtered water until boiled.
  2. Pour water in cups to warm the cup and cool down the water. You can also use a yuzamashi water cooler. Recommended water temperature for Sencha is 176°F (80°C). The flavor will be lighter and sweeter when brewed at lower water temperatures such as 158°F (70°C). Try different brew times and temperatures to find your preference.
  3. When it reaches your desired temperature, pour water over tea leaves. Steep for 1-1.5 minutes. This tea can be steeped up to 3 times.

Origin: Shizuoka, Japan

I often find that Japanese teas are too “grassy” for me. Obviously, this is just a matter of taste – many people look for that very quality. I was very pleased with the taste of this tea, and plan to make it my “go to” green tea. Great packaging as well. Finally, do make sure you brew this at a fairly low temperature. The instructions say 170 degrees F, but I would even recommend trying 160.

This sencha is sweet and nutty, almost floral. The leaves are packed with umami.

I originally bought this tea at my local Japanese supermarket and loved it. The store constantly runs out so now I place my tea orders online.

This tea is top notch in looks (deep green and leaves only, no twigs) aroma (fresh, grassy, fruity) and taste (fresh, grassy, fruity, delicate). I will definitely be ordering this tea again and again.
