Hokkaido is a region in Japan that’s famous for producing flavorful soybeans. In fact, this tea uses only the roundest soybeans to ensure a nutrient-rich, flavorful brew. Generally, Kuromamecha brews a dark purple. This tea is packed with potassium, calcium, and iron. After drinking, you can eat the beans for an extra boost of fiber.

Kuromamecha Brewing Instructions

  1. Heat fresh, filtered water until boiled. Let cool very slightly — water close to 203°F (95°C) is ideal for bringing out the fragrance and flavor in Kuromamecha.
  2. Pour water over the Kuromamecha.
  3. Steep for 5 minutes. This tea can be steeped up to 2 times and you can eat the beans afterward.

Iced Kuromamecha Brewing Instructions

For iced Kuromamecha, simply pour hot water over the beans and let it steep in the fridge overnight. The tea will last in the fridge for 2-3 days.

The Kuromamecha tea was really good and especially nice as cold brews for the summer! The packaging is great, reusable, and I like how it includes all the instructions and origins of the tea. Overall, I’m glad I chose this tea and I highly recommend!

Delicious tea! This was my first time trying this tea and it did not disappoint. The tea itself was rich and a bit nutty. I definitely will be trying Senbird’s other variety of teas.

This is a good source of quality tea! The only complaint I have is the amount of beans in the package 5.03oz. At the daily serving size, this lasted only two weeks. I was disappointed. I wish they would sell a 1.5lb size. It would be worth the price.

I just ordered this for the first time, and the freshness and quality of the tea is exquisite. Our family has enjoyed many evenings sipping on this delicious and comforting tea, while we relax and talk story. I plan to order more from Senbird Tea! I’m so happy I found this family owned Japanese business!

This is my first time trying black soy bean tea. My first thought was this is not your usual tea, it has a savory and nutty flavor that would go well with a very sweet dessert. If you’re bored at home, you can eat it like a snack also. It’s crunchy and toasty. The tin of the can is nicely designed and I’d probably repurpose the can for my other teas that I have. I would definitely recommend this tea to someone who wanted to try something new. But something to note is that these aren’t tea leaves so don’t expect it to taste like your regular tea.

In the past I have purchased bean cereals from Taiwan known as Greenmax. Black soybean was included. Soybeans grown in USA have so much arsenic and chemicals in them.. Do concrete research and outsource the soybeans from Taiwan or Japan. Inquire about the soil, ask for pictures. You need to care about where your food source comes from. Find out if the area has high pollution from cars.. I bought a bag of black soybeans and roasted them. I made delicious tea. Not all soybeans are the same. This brand is excellent. The tea is smooth and fragrant. I suggest others to purchase this fragrant soybean tea.

I am a huge coffee drinker and always looking for tea alternatives that still ‘hit the spot’ for me. Senbird’s Kuromamecha tea has hit the spot for over a year now – this soybean tea has a subtle nutty, roasted flavor, and my favorite part is eating the beans as I drink the tea. 🙂 Also love the personalized packaging!

  16. Kathryn

Really LOVE the nuttiness of this tea, and the roast of the beans seems super fresh and not over toasted. A bit expensive for how much you get, but it is what it is.

  17. Dylan

I like black soy milk and wanted to try black soy tea. Absolutely loved it. I was looking for a caffeine free tea that wasn’t floral and found this and sobacha.

  18. Carl

This was a really good tea and I hope the benefits of Soy Tea restore my youth!… only kidding but it sure made me feel good. At 59, this was a tea that I can enjoy and reap the benefits of nutrition and anti-oxidants.

  19. Ann

I tried this tea as a decaf alternative for my usual green teas. The soybeans are toasted which give it a delicate nutty flavor, nice for winter. It’s really high quality – you can leave the beans in for longer than the recommended steeping time and it just gets richer in flavor (no bitterness at all). Definitely planning to re-order once this tin is finished.

I’ve had black soybean tea years ago and the company that sold it discontinued them. And even for Amazon, it’s been difficult to find this. Finally have and will enjoy a few cups to make up for such a long wait.

  21. Teresa

New to this tea but I’m addicted. The flavor is nutty and so refreshing vs coffee. This is a great value for the money and it’s simple and easy to use. Scoop a few beans into hot water, let steep for five minutes and enjoy the tea plus eat the high nutrient beans at the end. Good source of protein!

  22. Sean

The taste was surprisingly delicious! A rich nutty taste with hint of chocolate and a natural sweetness to my delight. My doctor recommended black soy bean tea to help regulate blood pressure . I’ve been substituting it for coffee. I added a little oatmeal milk and enjoyed a latte!

Since I can’t travel to Japan I have been looking for good Japanese herbal tea.
This company makes the best tea I have bought so far here in the US.
I will order again, thank you!

  24. Janice

The nutty taste is very pleasant. I like that I didn’t have to add sugar. Enjoyed it and will order again. Thank you

  25. Jesse

Delicious, sweet, nutty, mild flavor. I was looking for a decaffeinated tea and found that this one had antiaging properties. I love exploring teas and this one really delivered on taste and quality

  26. Jean

Trying this tea for the first time. I have to say it has a strong earthy taste and would recommend this to others.

  27. Jordan

Good flavor but very expensive for the quantity you get

  28. Harold

I like this tea and love eating the beans after too! Taste nutty!

  29. Martha

I purchased this tea to help with my hot flashes after my hysterectomy because I didn’t want to do hormone replacement therapy. It has decreased the hot flashes tremendously. What a bonus that the tea is savory. The tea’s aroma and taste has a wonderful nutty roasted flavor.

  30. Gerald

I was looking for a good black soybean tea and I am glad I ended up with this one. Excellent flavor and easy to prepare. I would recommend it above all others that I have tried.

I have never seen black soybeans as large and delicious as these! The quality is superb. I just put it in a mug, pour hot water and let the beans steep for 5 minutes. Brews a beautiful purple-ish color with a nice nutty and sweet taste. I enjoy eating the beans afterwards as a snack. Highly recommend!
