Description

Sencha with Matcha Hime uses organic tea leaves picked at the beginning of the summer after absorbing a good amount of sunlight during the spring months. This is a deep steamed sencha green tea blended with organic ceremonial matcha from Uji, Kyoto, which has a long history of producing the finest quality matcha.

This sencha blend is energizing and vegetal, brewing a vibrant green hue. The natural sweetness and umami of Sencha with Matcha Hime is refreshing for cold brew too.

Sencha Brewing Instructions

  1. Heat fresh, filtered water until boiled.
  2. Pour water into cups to warm the cup and cool down the water. You can also use a yuzamashi water cooler.
  3. Pour water over tea leaves. Recommended water temperature for this Sencha is 176°F (80°C). The flavor will be lighter and sweeter when brewed at lower water temperatures such as 158°F (70°C). Try different brew times and temperatures to find your preference.
  4. Steep for 1-2 minutes. All of our teas can be steeped up to 3 times.

Sencha Cold Brew – Mizudashi (水出し) Instructions

Sencha with Matcha Hime is delicious and refreshing cold-brewed. Simply add 10g of tea leaves to 500 ml of cold water, and let it steep in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours. Cold-brew Sencha can keep in the fridge for 2-3 days.

    Hime sencha with matcha

    – [ ] I work as a barista, and consume a startling amount of espresso daily. I’ve come to realize the espresso caffeine rush feels more like a smack in the face, with a zing and body jitters, that leads to a noticeable crash. The caffeine rush graph for espresso would look like ^

    – [ ] This sencha with matcha caffeine rush is more of a smooth flow of energy that I find is more sustainable for mind and body. First the feeling of being gripped by inspiration, then a steady buzz of energy that doesn’t feel overwhelming, ending with a slow come down into a calm state. The caffeine rush graph for sencha with matcha would look like a half circle.

    – [ ] I love the well rounded deep herbal taste, that isn’t “too grassy” for pickier friends. I notice a more floral note to this hime sencha than other types I’ve tried. This is a great quality sencha, and the added matcha makes it a gem! I made tea bags with the loose leaf, using about 3tbs per 16oz of water. Honey, mint leaves, and lemon are my favorite additions. The tin is wonderful and I’m excited to reuse and refill it with more awesome Senbird tea!

This tin really packs a good amount of flavor. I had never seen a tea really remind me of a fresh-mowed lawn, but that is exactly what this tea reminds of me when you open it. Fresh springtime. For those who know about how Sencha is harvested, it says a lot about the business and how they take steps to keep that flavor locked in from harvest to your teacup. Even more so, their airtight tins are super cool, keep everything fresh even after opening the package inside, and the scent and flavor don’t tarnish over time like with most brands you buy. The leaves you get with this tin stay flavorful and when you make a cup with them you really just have to stop yourself from making cup after cup.
A few things I noticed after drinking the tea is that there is no overpowering aftertaste like some of the bitter leaves you can buy in the store. Furthermore, I noticed that during this allergy season, it helped keep me from having to deal with a runny nose more often than not. Matcha has been proven to fix that issue as well, but its good to see tea you can really see the health benefits of. That is how you know its natural and not sprayed with a bunch of chemicals. The flavor is there but only there long enough to enjoy it and not leave a bad taste in your mouth that makes you feel like you need to brush your teeth or rinse your mouth out. (As is the case with cheap green tea) These tea leaves shout quality and I even respect the fact that the business goes out of their way to reuse their tins as part of the recycle effort.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who has not had real Japanese Sencha.

I was first given this tea as a gift. I enjoyed it so much I had to order it for myself. Beautiful color, fresh bright flavor. Delicious!

So far, I’ve used it in my matcha lattes, baked treats and by itself. This matcha is absolutely delicious with a bright, vegetal flavor and rich green color. And there is NO bitter aftertaste, as I’ve experienced with other brands in the past. I will definitely buy again!

I have a small business and make green tea with elderberries. A little bit of green tea goes along way. It doesn’t overpower the elderberries but yet you get that great elderberry taste. Makes the tea taste so fresh!

Bright green color and tastes good. The matcha provides a deeper flavor. I just wish these came in the beautiful tin cans that their other teas have.

I’m a fan of Senbird: the teas are always high quality. Their cans are air-tight, eco friendly, and reusable. I purchased two for myself and my mother. We especially enjoy using the teas with our new kyusu teapot. The blue kyusu is beautiful and enhances my tea brewing experience: https://senbirdtea.com/product/yozora-kyusu-teapot/

I have been a tea lover for many years. Enjoying a hot cup in the evening is most relaxing to me. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the leaves looked. Then when I used a strainer, some of the tea leaves came out in the water and were a bright green and looked very fresh.
