ICE BREW - KOORIDASHI GYOKURO
1 | Put the tea leaves in a kyusu or teapot (with a capacity of 500-700ml) without a tea strainer and spread thinly for easy extraction.
*Using a tea strainer is not recommended, as the extracted tea may get lukewarm over time at room temperature. If you would like to use a tea strainer, we would encourage you to leave the ice to melt in the fridge overnight.
2 | Put the ice directly on top of the tea leaves. We recommend using ice made from filtered water or mineral water for a more delicious flavor.
3 | Leave the teapot at room temperature for 4 to 5 hours or leave it in the fridge overnight. After the ice melts, shake it gently to even out the tea extract. Pour into the cup(s). Enjoy the beautiful green color and wonderful umami flavor!
All you need is just a few leaves steeped in a cup, and the taste and feeling lingers on!!!
This is certainly high-quality tea but it unfortunately didn’t work for me. For the price point, I found the umami underwhelming, and the tea has something like notes of pine needles that some may like but I don’t.
I brew the tea according to instructions, using a kyusu and good temperature control. I tried brewing the tea at different temperatures /times (50C-60C) and just could not hit in the right spot for a full bodied umami that I would expect for this price point.
The company has three grades of gyokuro, though, and maybe a higher grade would have been more satisfying.
This is the third gyokuro I have tried in a week (we are tasting different brands and cultivars). And it is clearly the best one. First steep was creamy and sweet, second steep, I felt like I was drinking beautiful green dew. I think I had about 4 steeps and each one was great. Now I know why gyokuro is considered to be such a great tea. I love the tea tin --it is such a nice touch and much appreciated. I can't wait to try senbird's other teas. They clearly know what they are doing in the tea business.
I really do love this tea! First time buyer. It’s fresh, clean, and tastes great. I will keep buying it as long as it’s available.
