Product Type
At a Glance

Kotobuki is a premium gyokuro made from carefully shaded tea leaves grown in Kyoto, where the plants are covered for 20 days before harvest. This traditional shading technique deepens the tea’s vibrant jade color, enhances its concentrated umami, and elevates its natural sweetness for a bold yet refined brew.

The name Kotobuki (寿), meaning “long life” or “celebration,” reflects the tea’s treasured nature. With notes of bold umami, grassy vibrancy, and a clean, savory finish, each sip feels lively, rich, and invigorating. Naturally higher in caffeine and theanine, Gyokuro Kotobuki is perfect for mindful tea sessions, moments of focus, or special occasions.

玉露の淹れ方

HOW TO BREW GYOKURO

1 | Heat fresh, filtered water until boiled.

2 | Pour water into cups to warm the cup and cool down the water. You can also use a yuzamashi water cooler.

3 | Pour water over the tea leaves.

Recommended water temperature for Gyokuro is 122°F (50°C)-140°F (60°C). Try different brew times and temperatures to find your preference.

4 | Steep for 1.5-3 minutes. All of our teas can be steeped up to 3 times.

ICE BREW - KOORIDASHI GYOKURO

1 | Put the tea leaves in a kyusu or teapot (with a capacity of 500-700ml) without a tea strainer and spread thinly for easy extraction.

*Using a tea strainer is not recommended, as the extracted tea may get lukewarm over time at room temperature. If you would like to use a tea strainer, we would encourage you to leave the ice to melt in the fridge overnight.

2 | Put the ice directly on top of the tea leaves. We recommend using ice made from filtered water or mineral water for a more delicious flavor.

3 | Leave the teapot at room temperature for 4 to 5 hours or leave it in the fridge overnight. After the ice melts, shake it gently to even out the tea extract. Pour into the cup(s). Enjoy the beautiful green color and wonderful umami flavor!

Why did you pick this product vs others?:
Best-tasting Gyokuro on amazon. I like to cold-brew it, especially since it's summer. Can be re-steeped many times. Definitely a splurge purchase and not something I can drink every day, but it's worth it if you can afford it.

Amazing teas

I love, love, love all three Gyokuro teas. Which is my favorite? Whichever one I'm drinking on any given day. But maybe, Mikado is at the top of the list. Smooth delicate layered flavors with no astringency. Each morning I carefully brew the tea, bringing a cup to my wife who's still in bed. That's been our ritual for years. (We also enjoy the Sencha with Matcha). The customer care is fabulous as well. With each order, a hand written note is enclosed thanking me for supporting this small family business. I so appreciate this graciousness.

Incredible quality, taste is wonderful. This is the real deal. I will be coming back to Senbird’s Gyokuro over and over.
